Waxahachie, TX – It came down to the wire on Friday afternoon, with SAGU Baseball taking victory on a dramatic walk-off single in the tenth inning that sealed their victory over cross-town rival Texas Wesleyan University. SAGU now sits at 13-3 overall and 1-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
The game was tied at three with the Lions batting in the bottom of the tenth when
JV Verdin singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one runs.
SAGU opened up the scoring in the first inning as
Luis Salazar drove in one run on a double, and they would even the score at three in the bottom of the ninth inning when a hard ground ball and an error scored the tying run for the Lions.
Kaden Kneip got the win for SAGU. Kneip allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking zero.
Logan Mann three one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Ethan Nors started the game for SAGU, and the righty went six and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out six, and walking zero.
The Lions tallied ten hits on the afternoon.
JV Verdin,
Cade Hendricks,
Alejandro Garcia, and
Bryson Collins all collected multiple hits for SAGU. Verdin led SAGU with three hits in five at bats.
SAGU will now finish the series with Texas Wesleyan in a double header on Saturday, March 5, in Fort Worth, Texas. The first pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
