Head Coach Matt Cornacchione Reaches 250 Career Wins, 100 Wins at SAGU

Waxahachie, TX – On April 30, 2022, in a doubleheader against Bacone College, Head SAGU Baseball Coach Matt Cornacchione reached the 250 career wins milestone. Previously, on April 22, 2022, in a come from behind 7-6 victory over Mid-America Christian, Coach Cornacchione reached 100 wins at SAGU in just his four years at the helm of the program. Coach Cornacchione has a record at SAGU of 104-78.
 
Coach Cornacchione inherited the SAGU Baseball Program in 2019 and has since given the Lions three winning season in a row, starting in 2020. Under his leadership, SAGU has broken the single season wins record twice (2021, 2022) and the program win streak record. SAGU has seen their best season in program history during 2022 as the Lions now sit at 33-12 overall and 16-8 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, claiming third place in the SAC heading into the conference tournament. After the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, the Lions will set their hopes on making an NAIA National Tournament Regional for the first time in program history.

SAGU defeated Bacone College in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the SAGU Baseball Field. The Lions took game one 9-4 and game two 13-6. SAGU will be back in action at home tomorrow as they finish the four-game series with Bacone. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:30 PM.
 
Game One
 
The Lions weathered a push by Bacone College in the sixth inning where SAGU coughed up three runs, but the Lions were able to walk away with a 9-4 victory. In the first inning, SAGU got their offense started when Timothy Compomizzi doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. Compomizzi would lead SAGU offensively with two hits in his three at bats.
 
The Lions notched four runs in the fourth inning as Ben Bills, JV Verdin, and Corinthian Jones each had RBIs in the frame.
 
Ethan Nors led SAGU to victory on the hill. The righty allowed eight hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking zero. Nakoma RomanNose took the loss for Bacone. The hurler allowed six hits and eight runs over four innings, striking out one.
 
Game Two
 
Both offenses were strong in SAGU's 13-6 victory over Bacone College in game two of the doubleheader.
 
The Lions secured the victory thanks to eight runs in the first inning. The offensive onslaught by SAGU was led by Craig Venable, Cade Hendricks, Justin De Los Santos, Bryson Collins, and Ben Bills, all driving in runs in the inning.
 
SAGU would get things moving in the first inning when Craig Venable homered on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.
 
Michael Watson was the winning pitcher for SAGU. The lefthander went five innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out eight. Logan Mann threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out two and walking zero.
 
Micah Cloud took the loss for Bacone College. The pitcher went three innings, allowing eight runs on five hits and striking out four.
 
Ethan Nors, Justin De Los Santos, Bryson Collins, Craig Venable, and Cade Hendricks each managed one hit while Ben Bills led SAGU with two hits in his four at bats.
