Kansas City, MO – SAGU Baseball split their first two games played on the second day of the NCCAA World Series. The Lions took a 7-4 win over College of the Ozarks but fell 10-0 to the University of Fort Lauderdale. SAGU will be back in action in an elimination game on Monday, May 23, in their second matchup against College of the Ozarks at the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy at 9:00 AM. Game One
SAGU won their first game of the NCCAA World Series 7-4 over the University of the Ozarks on Saturday.
The Bobcats fired up their offense in the first inning, when Spencer Greene grounded out, scoring one run.
SAGU would pull away for good with six runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth,
Ben Bills doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run,
Cade Dorethy singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, an error scored two runs,
Craig Venable tripled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, and
Timothy Compomizzi singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
Ethan Nors got the win for SAGU. The righty surrendered four runs on 12 hits over nine innings, striking out eight and walking one.
Riley Loyd took the loss for College of the Ozarks. Loyd lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while walking zero.
SAGU tallied 15 in the game. Bills, Venable, Compomizzi,
Bryson Collins, and Dorethy each managed multiple hits for the Lions. Bills and Venable both racked up three hits each to lead SAGU.
Game Two
SAGU watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 10-0 loss to University of Fort Lauderdale on Saturday in their second game on the NCCAA World Series. The Eagles scored on a groundout by Justin Martinez in the first inning and extended their lead in the second inning on an error by the Lions.
SAGU struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Fort Lauderdale, giving up ten runs in seven innings.
Anthony Anselmo earned the victory on the mounds for the Eagles. Anselmo surrendered zero runs on two hits over six innings, striking out four. Jacob Laroque threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Michael Watson took the loss for SAGU. Watson allowed nine hits and six runs over five and a third innings, striking out seven. Watson ends the year with a 10-2 record.
Collins and
Matt Daiy each managed one hit to lead SAGU. Fort Lauderdale had 12 hits in the game.
SAGU will now face College of the Ozarks in an elimination game on Monday, May 23, at 9:00 AM at the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy.
