SAGU finishes 3-1 in the Tabor, Mount Marty tournament series

February 18, 2023

Waxahachie, TX  – On Saturday evening in Waxahachie, Texas, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions baseball team played the final two games of a tournament series matchup versus Tabor College and Mount Marty College.

Game 1:

In SAGU's first game of the day versus Tabor College, the Lions were able to escape with a narrow 1-2 victory.

SAGU made contact for seven hits compared to Tabor's six, but Matt Daiy's fly out to the infield brought in Nick Mosley for the game-winning score in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Cade Hendricks was able to come in for a score after a Timothy Compomizzi single brought his run in.

The pitching for SAGU was led by Reagan Smith, who had four strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Game 2:

In the Lion's second game of the day, SAGU took their first tournament series lost 5-1 to Mount Marty College.

In the day's second game, SAGU struggled to make consistent connections for hits, for they only tallied three hits.

Matt Daiy was able to jet to home plate for the one scoring run for the Lions after Avery Chatman cracked a single.

The pitching duties for the lions were divided between Trevor Proefrock, who had four strikeouts, Ryan Aalos, who had two strikeouts, and Kaden Kneip, who had three strikeouts.

Cornacchione's Corner

"Today was difficult for us offensively. In game 1, we were lucky to succeed, but in game 2, we were just too sluggish to adapt. In game two, we saw some promising signs on the mound, and we can hopefully build on that.," said SAGU head baseball coach Matt Cornachione.
