Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lions delivered a statement performance in their doubleheader against Texas Wesleyan on Sunday, first blanking the Rams 4-0 before erupting for a 15-8 offensive explosion at the Lions Athletic Complex.
Game 1
Ryan Avalos was untouchable on the mound, spinning a complete-game shutout while allowing just two hits and striking out seven to notch his first win of the season. The Lions' defense was flawless behind him, committing zero errors and keeping the Rams off the scoreboard.
Offensively, Nick Mosley was the spark plug, going 1-for-1 with two RBIs, including a clutch fifth-inning single that stretched Nelson's lead. Zeke Holder, Dominick Padilla, and Wesley Flatt each contributed to the offensive attack, while Jaxson Bates added an RBI to keep the Lions in command.
Game 2
The series finale turned into an offensive showcase, and Nelson wasted no time asserting dominance. The Lions exploded for eight runs in the first inning, setting the tone for a 15-run, 12-hit performance that left the Rams scrambling.
The fireworks started with Andrew Ortiz blasting a leadoff home run, followed by Dominick Padilla's RBI single and a two-run knock from Josh Pinter. Zeke Holder delivered the dagger in the sixth, launching a two-run homer that punctuated a five-run frame and sealed the win.
Tristan McGee, Tate Thrasher, and Pinter each had multi-RBI performances, while Eli Lyons added a double to keep the pressure on. On the mound, Shawn Robertson earned his first win, tossing four strong innings before the bullpen stifled a late push from Texas Wesleyan.
