Bethany, OK — Despite outhitting Southwestern Christian 11–7, the Nelson University Lions couldn't capitalize in key moments and dropped a tough 4–2 decision in the series opener Thursday afternoon on the road.
The Eagles struck early, plating three runs in the first two innings and adding another in the fifth. Meanwhile, Nelson left 10 runners on base and managed just two runs on a sixth-inning RBI groundout from Dominick Padilla, scoring Shawn Robertson after a single from Xavien Thompson.
Thompson stayed hot at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base, while Andrew Ortiz collected two hits and swiped two bags of his own. Josh Pinter and Jaxson Bates each added two hits in the Lions' 11-hit attack.
On the mound, Ryan Avalos (0–1) was tagged with the loss, giving up four runs (two earned) over 4.1 innings. Hamilton Moye was solid in relief, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings with just one hit allowed.
Now sitting at 23–21 overall (11–13 SAC), the Lions look to bounce back and take the series with a doubleheader scheduled for Friday, April 18 at 11:00 AM back at Southwestern Christian in Bethany, OK.
