Waxahachie, TX | February 27–28, 2026 – The bats were loud, the arms were sharp, and the Lions made one thing clear all weekend at the Lions Athletic Complex: this is their yard.
Nelson powered past Oklahoma Panhandle State University in a three-game series sweep, posting dominant victories of 11–2, 15–2, and 6–2 to continue building momentum in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
GAME ONE: Eight-Run Eruption Breaks It Open (11–2)
After two quiet innings, the Lions detonated in the bottom of the third. What started as traffic on the basepaths quickly turned into a full-blown avalanche.
Josh Pinter sparked the surge with a two-run blast to right field, igniting an eight-run frame that flipped a scoreless duel into an 8–0 statement. According to the official box score, Nelson plated eight runs on five hits in the inning alone. Pinter finished with a home run and two RBI, while O. Rivera and D. Ortiz each delivered run-producing hits as the lineup kept passing the baton. The Lions showed patience as well, drawing 11 walks in the game constantly applying pressure.
On the mound, Neco Lopez earned the win, moving to 4–0 on the season. He worked 4.2 strong innings, allowing just one earned run and keeping the Aggies off balance. The bullpen trio of Blaine Vaughan and Jake McMahan shut the door from there as Nelson rolled to the 11–2 victory.
GAME TWO: Hit Parade in a 15-Run Showcase (15–2)
If Game One was explosive, Game Two was relentless.
OPSU struck first with a two-run homer in the top of the first, but Nelson responded immediately with four runs of its own in the bottom half. From that moment forward, the Lions never looked back.
Nelson racked up 18 hits in the contest, turning the afternoon into a hitting clinic. Pinter stayed scorching hot, launching another home run and driving in multiple runs. Andrew Ortiz added a homer of his own, and Zeke Velazquez was a constant spark in the middle of the order.
By the time the sixth inning dust settled, Nelson had poured in six more runs to seal the run-rule style 15–2 victory.
On the mound, Hamilton Moye earned the win (2–0), delivering three scoreless innings in relief.. The pitching staff combined to limit OPSU to just six hits and two runs, while striking out five.
The Lions' defense was sharp as well, playing error-free baseball in Game Two — clean, crisp, and composed.
GAME THREE: Closing the Door (6–2)
With the series already in hand, Nelson stayed disciplined and business-like in the finale. The Lions controlled the tempo early and never allowed the Aggies to build sustained momentum.
Timely hitting and consistent pitching carried Nelson to a 6–2 win, completing the three-game sweep and reinforcing the identity that has been forming: explosive offense backed by dependable arms.
