Goodwell, OK- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) traveled to Goodwell, OK for their last regular season road game of the year against Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU). SAGU (0-9, 0-7) who has been relying heavily on their defense for most of the season had no answers for OPSU (3-7, 3-5) as they fell in defeat 35-0.
Top Performers:
- Brylen Watson (SO/Midland, TX) led the Lions in passing yards with 54 and rushing yards with 55.
- Jordaan Coleman (SR/Oak Cliff, TX) managed to cause some chaos in the backfield as he recorded two sacks and a fumble.
- Bryant Dotson (SR/Grand Prairie, TX) and Reginald Agyei (FR/Grand Prairie, TX) tied for the team high is receptions with three.
Lion Review:
- SAGU found themselves down early as OPSU scored on a 79-yard touchdown pass with just 53 seconds gone in the 1st quarter.
- OPSU running back Tony Brown scored on a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs in the first half as SAGU found themselves down 28-0 at halftime.
- The Lions converted just 4-14 on third downs. The SAGU defense made it equally as hard for OPSU on third down only converting 3-15.
- The SAGU defense managed to get a couple takeaways in the form of an interception and a forced fumble. Unfortunately, they gifted OPSU with three turnovers of their own.
- Watson threw a pick-six in the third quarter to make the score 28-0 and likely sealed the fate of the Lions.
Next Step: SAGU (0-9, 0-7) will host Ottawa University (AZ) (8-1, 6-1) in the season finale at 11 am on November 16th at Lumpkin Stadium. The Lions will have a final opportunity for their first win of the season.
