Waxahachie, TX – SAGU Volleyball had a clean sweep over their three-game weekend. The Lions started with a three-set win over Langston and a four-set win over the University of St. Thomas on Friday night. SAGU then took on Central Christian on Saturday afternoon and won the match in three sets. The Lions now improve to 18-6 on the year and 11-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
GM 1:
The Lions had a clean sweep over Langston with set scores of 25-9, 25-17, and 25-15.
Ava Myers led the charge with 14 kills while
Riley Burcham added 33 assists. The Lions played solid defense with 45 digs and three blocks.
Tessa Glick led the Lions defense with 12 digs and
Faith Marroquinn added 11 digs.
GM 2:
SAGU took on the University of St. Thomas in game two Friday night. St. Thomas proved to be the Lions' toughest opponent of the weekend, but they came away with a match win in four sets with scores of 23-25, 25-12, 25-20, and 25-18. The Lions lost the first set as both teams battled back and forth, but the Lions responded with three straight set wins to take the victory.
Ava Myers once again led the Lions offense with 16 kills while
Alexis Mealer added 15 kills. Myers had a double-double on the night with her 16 kills and 16 digs. She also added two kills and two assists.
Riley Burcham had a double-double as well with 45 assists and 14 digs.
Tessa Glick led the Lions defense with 34 digs; SAGU totaled 94 digs in the game.
GM 3:
The Lions finished off their weekend sweep with a three-set win over Central Christian. The Lions won with set scores of 25-9, 25-12, and 25-3. SAGU won by a margin of 13 or more points in each set including a 22-point margin in set three. Overall, the Lions outscored Central Christian 55-13. Statistically SAGU dominated the match with 44 kills compared to Central Christian's 10, and the Lions had 54 digs compared to Central Christian's 25.
Alexis Mealer led the Lions offense with 12 kills, and
Emma Tompkins added 10 kills. Tompkins also added three total blocks, and Mealer had two.
Faith Marroquinn led the Lions defense with 12 digs while
Riley Burcham added 38 assists.
