Waxahachie, TX – SAGU Volleyball swept Wayland Baptist University in three sets on Saturday afternoon in the Sheaffer Center Gymnasium. After losing to Wayland Baptist earlier in the year, the Lady Lions had their eyes on this game and delivered a big win with scores of 25-22, 25-11, and 25-23.
The Lions and Pioneer stayed within three points of each other throughout the first set, but it was
Abby Wells with back-to-back kills to put the Lions up 23-20. After a service error by the Pioneers,
Emma Tompkins finished the set and secured the 25-22 set one win.
SAGU would go on to dominate the second set, going on a 7-0 run to put the Lions up 18-6 and eventually cruise to 25-11 set two win. The third set saw another battle between the Lions and the Pioneers, but SAGU maintained their lead throughout the entire third set and took a 25-23 set three win securing the match sweep.
Abby wells led the SAGU offense with 10 kills while
Tessa Glick once again led the SAGU defense with 16 digs.
Alexis Mealer and
Emma Tompkins added 8 kills each, and
Jancee Akers added 3 total blocks.
Faith Marroquinn had 3 aces on the day while adding 8 digs from the SAGU backcourt.
