Oklahoma City, OK – SAGU Volleyball defeated John Brown University on Friday night in the Abe Lemons Arena to advance to the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championship game. The Lady Lions took the match victory over the Golden Eagles with scores of 22-25, 25-17, 25-15, and 25-20. SAGU will now face Wayland Baptist University (23-10) at 1:00 PM on Saturday in the Abe Lemons Arena on the campus of Oklahoma City University to decide the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament champion.
This is the first time in program history SAGU Volleyball has advanced to the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championship game.
The Lady Lions started the match slow losing set one 25-22, but they immediately rebounded to take a big set two win 25-17. The Lady Lions put together a great set three as they went on a 5-0 run to win the set 25-15. SAGU won 11 of the last 12 points in set three. They would go on to close the door and win the match in set four taking a 25-20 win. John Brown would threaten the Lady Lions lead throughout set four, but they maintained their confidence, and
Ava Myers ended the match with a kill to send SAGU to the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championship game.
Alexis Mealer had another big offensive night totaling 20 kills and ending the match with a .327 hitting percentage.
Ava Myers added 10 kills, while
Emma Tompkins gave the Lady Lions 8 kills and hit .333 on the night.
Tessa Glick led the SAGU defense as she had a 30-dig game and added two service aces.
Riley Burcham had a 40-assist night as she anchored the SAGU offense. She also totaled 13 digs giving herself a double-double.
