Fort Worth, TX – The SAGU Men's Basketball team opened Sooner Athletic Conference play with a big 75-63 win over Texas Wesleyan on Thursday night in the Sid Richardson Center. Texas Wesleyan was selected in the fourth spot in the Preseason Sooner Athletic Conference Poll.
As a team, the Lions shots 46% from the field and went 18-22 from the free throw line (82%). SAGU also dominated the paint outrebounding the Rams 32-28 and outscoring the Rams in the paint 24-22. The Lions put pressure on the Texas Wesleyan defense throughout the game as well causing the Rams to have 20 turnovers compared to SAGU's 11. The Lions also scored 17 points off turnovers.

Nykolas Mason had another dominant performance leading the Lions with 27 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block. Mason went 9-15 from the field and 9-11 from the free throw line.
Joshua Kashila also filled the stat sheet with a 20-point game while adding 5 assists, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals.
SAGU now sits at 4-1 on the year and 1-0 in conference play. They will head to Chickasha, Oklahoma on Saturday, November 20, to take on nationally ranked #12 Science and Arts. The Lions now rank #9 in the latest 2021-22 NAIA Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Tip-off is set for 3:45 PM.
