Plainview, TX – The SAGU Volleyball team lost in three hard fought sets to Wayland Baptist on Friday night as both teams were competing for first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference. This is the first loss for the Lions in conference play during the 2021 season.
With set scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-21, both teams were very evenly matched, but the Pioneers proved to be too much for the Lions as they strung together a few hard-fought rallies to finish off each set.
Statistically, both teams finished nearly even. The Lions had 46 kills compared to Wayland's 47 kills, and both teams finished with 44 assists. Wayland finished with 64 digs compared to the Lions' 61 digs, but it was Wayland's aces and serves that proved to become a deciding factor as they finished with five aces while the Lions had eight service errors. Wayland ended the match outscoring SAGU 55 to 50.

- Abby Wells had thirteen kills and finished with a .355 hitting percentage
