Waxahachie, TX – The SAGU Women's Basketball team took a 98-86 victory over the University of North Texas Dallas on Tuesday night in the Sheaffer Center. SAGU's 98 points is the most they have scored during the 2021-22 season. They now sit at 7-11 on the year and 4-8 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
SAGU and the Trailblazers battled during the first quarter as both teams stayed within two points of each other. They would go into the second quarter tied 24-24. SAGU would build their lead after a quick 9-0 run in the second quarter thanks to
Rylee Lavender's four-point play just 1:30 into the quarter. The Lady Lions would lose their lead and trail 45-41 at half, but they would come out hot in the third quarter. SAGU shot a perfect 6-6 from three and 3-3 from the free throw line in the third quarter. They would end the quarter going 13-15 from the field and outscoring UNT Dallas 35-25. With a three-point lead and just 3:30 minutes left in the fourth quarter, SAGU would go on a 14-4 run to end the game giving them a 98-86 victory.
As a team, the Lady Lions shot 50% from the field, 45.8% from three, and 83.3% from the free throw line. They were able to capitalize on the Trailblazers turnovers, scoring 24 points off of UNT Dallas' 14 turnovers. They also added 12 fast break points and 15 second chance points.
Six different SAGU players saw double digits on the night.
Rylee Lavender finished with 22 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. She went 4-6 from three and 8-12 from the field.
Kyla McMinn had 16 points and 3 rebounds while
Mary Jo Parker and
Autumn Moore each added 15 points. Moore had a team high 10 rebounds and 8 assists giving her a double-double on the night.
Jaycie Brisco filled the stat sheet once again as she finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists, and
Jazra Williams added 11 points.
SAGU will continue their home stretch as they face cross town rival Texas Wesleyan University on Thursday, January 20, at 6:00 PM in the Sheaffer Center.
