SAGU celebrates senior Guilherme Calvacante

October 29, 2022

Waxahachie, TX: On Saturday morning at Life HS Waxahachie, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions faced Central Christian College (CCC) in their last Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) regular season contest of the 2022 season. Before the match, senior day festivities were conducted at the field to celebrate Guilherme Calvacante.

Lions Review

  • To begin the game, Guilherme Calvacante, a senior, led the lions' charge as they prepared to attack the CCC Tigers.

  • Jacop Sang maneuvered past defenders to create space for a shot that flew wide and over the reach of the CCC goalie.

  • Juan Ambriz fired a shot from the forward position to put the Tigers' defenders on high alert.

  • Ted Okoroh's shot would similarly be positioned relatively far to the right. At the end of the first half, SAGU held the advantage statistically, outshooting CCC in corner kicks and shots on goal.

  • The performance by Guilherme Calvacante was befitting of a senior. The Lion's player gave it his all, playing aggressively and with enthusiasm.

  • The score would remain tied at 0 at the half.

  • Jose Ladoriel would block a shot to open the second session as the SAGU goalie resisted allowing the Tigers to score.

  • As soon as Ryan Sandron emerged, he fired a shot of his own. The Tigers would respond with a goal of their own.

  • The Tigers eventually prevailed in the game by a score of two. Standing ovations from the supportive home audience resulted from the Lions' effort and tenacity.

    Oancea's Opinion

"This has been an incredible journey in seeing Calvacante grow into the young man he has become. We have had the best time training you here as a SAGU Lion for the last two years. You have been a blessing to many that got to know you, and the entire campus has benefited from your presence. The passion and sense of learning you have shown have fascinated your teammates & encourage others to follow in your steps.
Coaching you for the last two years has been an immense pleasure for me personally, and thanks for allowing me and the staff to become part of your family. You never failed to amaze me with your willingness to learn and take every opportunity to meet new people and build new relationships with every moment you get. During these two years, you accomplished great success at various things, and seeing you grow more than one way is the best gift." SAGU men's soccer head coach Clementin Oancea noted.
