SAGU Lions win big over Langston on senior day

November 12, 2022

Waxahachie, TX: The Langston University (LU) Lions were the opponent that the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football team faced off against at Lumpkins Stadium in Waxahachie, Texas, on a gameday that included a senior day ceremony. The seniors recognized for their outstanding achievements as members of the Lions football team included Adarian Rowel, Isaac Gowdy, Keaton Dudik, Jaylan Moss, Damaris Herron, Trevion McNeil, Zachary Johnson, Zachary Nelson, Zackariah Johnson, Khalil Jenkins, Corey Anzaldua, Kieran Woodley, Christopher Bacos, Evan Greathouse, Eloy Carrillo, Rodrick Williams, and Devante Crownover. Keaton Dudik, a senior running back, recently helped SAGU win a game and added three touchdowns and another 300+ yard outing to his season totals.

The LU Lions (6-4, 5-4) were hammered 39-21 by the SAGU Lions (7-3, 6-3).

Lion Review

  • The LU team would score the game's opening points with a cutting slant route across the middle of the field. The SAGU leadership would not be fazed by the rapid score and would answer with polished and passionate football.

  • After the SAGU Lions mishandled and gave up a punt return, Zach Nelson intercepted Langston's quarterback.

  • With the ball back, QB Briley Green's SAGU offense would target Zackariah Johnson on a slant route. Upon entering the end zone, Johnson would juggle and mix up two LU defenders.

  • Then Zach Nelson picked up his second interception of the day, starting to put the pieces of a legendary senior game together.

  • For the 19-yard touchdown, Paul Odidi outran his opponent, for the long receiver was too swift for his LU DB matchup to contain him in the open field.

  • The SAGU Lions kept making massive plays on defense. At the SAGU 20-yard line, Damaris Herron scooped the recovery after uppercutting the LU quarterback out of possession of the ball.

  • At the half, SAGU led Langston 19–14; both Lion teams were motivated.

  • After refueling during the halfway break, Keaton Dudik ran for a touchdown of 27 yards. Dudik evaded several defenders as he raced through openings left by the SAGU front five on his way to the goal.

  • After Carter Lincoln picked up his fourth interception of the season, he and his defensive back teammates performed their signature dance.

  • Leading the SAGU defense in tackles were Damaris Herron with eight, Keandre Belcher with six, Isaac Gowdy with five, and Jaylan Moss with five.

  • Keaton Dudik contributed 208 yards and three touchdowns on 34 carries. On SAGU PAT's, Kieran Woodley had a perfect three-for-three performance.
