Tilley-Bedick leads all scorers against Wayland with 20

November 19, 2022

Waxahachie, TX: On Saturday evening at the Sheaffer Center in Waxahachie, Texas, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions women's basketball team played their second Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest of the 2022–23 season against the Wayland Baptist University (WBU) Flying Queens.

After a fierce battle, WBU beat the Lady Lions 69-59 to give SAGU a (1-1) Sooner Athletic Conference record.

Lion Review

  • Jazra Williams and Rylee Lavender, two returning members of the Lady Lions team, combined for 16 points in the first quarter to establish the tone early in the contest.

  • After 10 minutes of play, the Lady Lions led 19-11 after shooting an incredible 60% from the field and 50% from three-point range.

  • The Flying Queens could only convert on 25% of their shot attempts in the first session due to the Lady Lions' stifling defense.

  • Neeley Tilley-Bedick sank back-to-back threes to establish her presence in the game as the Lady Lions' hot shooting started to wane.

  • At halftime, the Lady Lions and the Flying Queens were tied at 29 points each.

  • The Lady Lions outrebounded the Flying Queens to start the second half, but costly mistakes allowed the WBU team to remain in the contest.

  • In an effort to win the game, Neeley Tilley-Bedick scored 14 points in the second half.

  • The left-handed guard made a plethora of three-pointers, giving the Lady Lions a chance to narrow the scoring disparity that WBU had established. In the end, the Lady Lions suffered their first conference loss in a hard-fought game.

  • Jazra Williams finished with 17 points and four rebounds and three steals. Neeley Tilley-Bedick led all scorers with 20 points and 6 three pointers made.

Son's Spiel

"We played gutsy defense against a tough squad, and the crowd was amazing! Jazra Williams and Neeley Tilley-Bedick delivered outstanding performances. I am proud of our development," SAGU head women's basketball coach Micheal Sons said.
