Day two of the OLLU Halo Classic saw Moravcik record a double-double

November 5, 2022

San Antonio, TX: The Lady Lions of Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), on day two of the Our Lady of the Lake University's (OLLU) Halo Classic, faced the tournament host in a Saturday afternoon showdown in the OLLU Mabee Gymnasium. The Saints, who have had great success in their past seasons, will aim to participate in the NAIA National Tournament once more under the direction of a new coaching staff. The Lady Lions would employ aggressive team defense to thwart the scoring attack because the Saints averaged 73.5 points per game the previous season.

Lion Review

  • The first quarter was highly contested and ended with a 13-13 draw. A few minutes before halftime, OLLU's offense picked up, and they went into the break with a 36-23 lead.

  • The Saints amassed 25 points in the third quarter, but the Lions' 21 points weren't enough to spark a comeback. OLLU scored 19 more points in the last round, resulting in an 80-63 victory.

  • Taylor Moravcik scored 20 points to lead SAGU. Moravcik added 14 rebounds to her haul, giving her a double-double. With three assists, Wendy Clemmons assumed the team lead in passing.

  • Regarding percentages, SAGU made 23 of 49 shots for 46.9%, 3 of 18 three-pointers for 16.7%, and 14 of 20 free throws for 70%.

  • The Lady Lions prevailed in the fight for rebounds by boxing out well and crashing the glass effectively on both ends of the court. The Saints pulled down 34 boards compared to SAGU's 39.

Son's Spiel

"Today, we made progress. To start, I'd like to thank the tournament host for organizing a wonderful tournament weekend. These games will serve as a terrific springboard for the upcoming season, and we'll use them to improve. I appreciate the ladies' efforts and can't wait to see how they learn going forward." SAGU head women's basketball coach Micheal Sons said.
