Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Darian Davis

The Lady Lions' defense performs admirably in a stingy effort

December 13, 2022

Waxahachie, TX: On Tuesday afternoon at the Sheaffer Center in Waxahachie, Texas, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions women's basketball team played the North American University (NAU) Stallions.

In the victory versus NAU, several Lady Lions established new season highs. With help from a strong defensive performance, SAGU defeated NAU 67-39.

Lion Review

  • After the first period of play, the Lady Lions held a 12-9 lead over the Stallions. With a long three-pointer and aggressive play that earned her many trips to the free-throw line, Jennah Savage took the lead early in the game by scoring eight points in her first showing off the bench.

  • Jazra Williams excelled offensively on the blocks and played outstanding paint defense in the second period to finish the first half.

  • At halftime, the Lady Lions led the Stallions 25-21. The SAGU women would raise the ante to start the second half. To steal passes and put the NAU women in difficult circumstances, the Lady Lions swooped around the court like bats.

  • The Lady Lions' defense controlled the game. Only 18 points were scored by the NAU offense in the second half, thanks to the swarming SAGU defense.

  • SAGU scored 32 points off turnovers compared to the NAU team's 14.

  • Jazra Williams had her first double-double of the year, with a season-high 19 points and 15 rebounds.

  • Chanie Chambers set a new season best with 11 points on three made three-pointers.

  • The Lady Lions also recorded a new season high of 16 steals before the game's end.

Son's Spiel

"It was nice to get back to being a stingy defense! I was proud of the girls' efforts. This was a complete team win! We are getting better every day." SAGU head women's basketball coach Micheal Sons said.
