Stars withstand a late Lady Lions raid

December 8, 2022

Oklahoma City, OK: On Thursday afternoon at the Abe Lemons Arena, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions women's basketball team played in a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest against the Oklahoma City University (OCU) Stars.

Lion Review

  • Twelve of the Lady Lions' 19 points in the first period came from Rylee Lavender, who dominated play.

  • Lavender scored freely for SAGU at all three levels, making three-pointers, pulling up for mid-range shots, and cutting into the lane for floaters.

  • The Lady Lions outrebounded the Stars 15 to 14 in the second period.

  • The closely contested session, in which no side could build a lead of more than four, resulted in tight rebounding competition.

  • The Lady Lions were behind 34-33 against the Stars at halftime.

  • The Stars built a double-digit lead in the third period, attributed to a sluggish start from the SAGU team.

  • Huge three-pointers made by Jennah Savage helped SAGU go on a scoring spree.

  • In the last session, Autumn Moore zipped past the OCU defense, forcing them to foul.

  • Moore led SAGU in the fourth quarter with eight points, but the sophomore point guard's scoring run off the bench could not overcome the Stars' advantage.

  • With a final score of 76-59, OCU would defeat SAGU and defend their home court.

  • With 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists, Rylee Lavender led SAGU.

  • Autumn Moore scored 13 points for the Lady Lions and hit seven free throws.

  • Taylor Moravcik pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds, while Jennah Savage scored a career-high 10 points.

Son's Spiel

"The ladies fought hard. We are seeing some great things. We are close to putting this thing together," SAGU head women's basketball coach Micheal Sons said.
