Waxahachie, TX – SAGU Baseball took an 8-0 win in game one and a 5-1 win game two over York College on Friday afternoon at the SAGU Baseball Field. The Lions offense combined for 24 hits on the day while the SAGU pitching staff totaled 19 strikeouts. SAGU now sits at 9-2 on the year, and they will face York College in doubleheader again on Saturday. The first pitch is set for noon.
Game One
Ethan Nors didn't allow a single run as SAGU defeated York College 8-0 on Friday. Nors allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out six. The righthander earned the win on the mound and is now 2-0 on the year. The Lions were boosted by
JV Verdin who went 4-for-4 at the plate. Verdin singled in the second, singled in the third, singled in the fourth, and singled in the sixth.
SAGU got things started in the second inning when
Matt Daiy's sac fly scored one run for the Lions. They then put up three runs in the fourth inning as
Ben Bills,
Alejandro Garcia, and
Cade Hendricks each drove in runs during the inning. The Lions totaled 15 hits in the game, and
JV Verdin,
Ben Bills,
Justin De Los Santos, and
Cade Dorethey each collected multiple hits for SAGU.
Game Two
The Lions kept their momentum from game one and defeated York 5-1 in game two on Friday. York would get things started in the second inning when Jose Martinez drew a walk, and a wild pitch scored one run. SAGU evened things up at one in the bottom of the second inning as
JV Verdin singled scoring
Cade Hendricks. Verdin would end the day going 7-for-7 at the plate between both games.
The Lions pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning as
Cade Dorethey doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run, and
Matt Daiy's sac fly would also push a run across the plate.
Michael Watson got the win for the Lions on the mound. The lefthander lasted six innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out 11.
Logan Mann threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. SAGU ended the game with nine hits, and
JV Verdin,
Cade Hendricks, and
Cade Dorethey each had multiple hits for the Lions. Verdin led SAGU with three hits in his three at bats.
