Waxahachie, TX – SAGU Baseball finished the series with York college earning two more wins on Saturday afternoon at the SAGU Baseball Field. The Lions took game one 8-1 and game two 7-4. SAGU now sits at 11-2 on the year, and they will face No. 6 nationally ranked Louisiana State University Shreveport on Tuesday, February 22, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Game One
SAGU sailed to an easy victory over York College 8-1 on Saturday. In the first inning, the Lions got their offense started as
Alejandro Garcia hit a sac fly to score the first run of the game. SAGU tallied three more runs in the fifth inning as
JV Verdin and
Ethan Nors all drove in runs during the frame. Verdin finished the weekend going 8-9 with two sac flies, a walk, and 7 RBI's.
Grant McManus was the winning pitcher for SAGU. The righty allowed four hits and one run over five innings, striking out six.
Kaden Kneip three two innings in relief out of the bullpen, striking out four.
The Lions collected 11 hits during game one.
Bryson Collins,
Cade Dorethey, and
Cade Hendricks all managed multiple hits for SAGU. Dorethey and Collins each managed three hits to lead the Lions.
Game Two
SAGU carried their momentum into the final game of the series and came away with a 7-4 win over York College on Saturday. The Lions got things started in the first inning as leadoff hitter
Bryson Collins hit a solo homerun.
SAGU pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth,
JV Verdin's sac fly scored one run, and Collins drew a walk scoring one run.
Luis Salazar drew a walk, scoring one run, and
Ben Bills grounded out pushing a run across the board.
Bills was credited with the victory for SAGU. The righthander surrendered three runs on six hits over four innings, striking out four and walking one. Bills earned his 200
th career strikeout in inning numbers two.
Logan Mann,
Jadon Harper, and
Daniel Wilbanks all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering the Lions towards the victory. Mann recorded the last four outs to earn the save for SAGU.
Bryson Collins and
Cade Hendricks each collected one hit to lead SAGU.
