Waxahachie, TX – The SAGU Men's Basketball team fell to Mid-America Christian 92-74 on Monday night in the Sheaffer Center.
The Lions came out of the gate without any rhythm as they turned the ball over 11 times in the first half and shot just 40% from the field and 26% from three. Mid-America Christian capitalized on SAGU's sloppy play as they shot 52% from the field and 50% from three. At the 15-minute mark in the first half, the Evangels would go on an 17-6 run regaining a 23-19 lead. The Lions were never able to regain any momentum in the first half as they went down 51-35 at halftime.
In the second half, SAGU couldn't overcome their deficit shooting just 37% from the field and 20% from three. As a team the Lions finished the night shooting 38% from the field (27-70), 22% from three (8-35), and 60% from the free throw line (12-20). Mid-America would go on to have a great offensive night shooting 47% from the field (31-66), 41% from three (13-31), and 70% from the free throw line (17-24). With the 92-74 loss to the Evangels, the Lions now sit at 17-6 on the year and 14-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Joel Polius led the Lions with 16 points on 7-11 shooting. He also pulled in a team high 15 rebounds giving him a double-double on the night.
Nathan Bailey added 12 points going 3-9 from three, and
Tyler Kinghorn added 12 points going 4-9 from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line.
SAGU will now face Langston on Thursday, February 10, at 7:45 PM in the Sheaffer Center.
