SAGU Drops Two to Science and Arts

Waxahachie, TX – SAGU fell in both games to Science and Arts on Saturday afternoon at the SAGU Baseball Field. The Lions took the Drovers to extra innings in both games, but they fell 2-1 in game one and 4-1 in game two. SAGU now sits at 15-6 on the year and 2-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. The Lions will finish their series with Science and Arts on Sunday, March 13, in a single nine inning game at the Waxahachie Sports Complex. The first pitch is set for 1:30 PM.
 
Game One
 
SAGU stayed in it until the end, but Science and Arts pulled away in a late 2-1 victory on Saturday. The game was tied at one with the Drovers batting in the top of the eights when Brock Henderson doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
 
The pitching was strong on both sides. Science and Arts struck out six, while SAGU also sat down six. The Lions evened things up at one in the bottom of the sixth inning when Timothy Compomizzi doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
 
Ethan Nors took the loss for SAGU. The righthander allowed just four hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out four. Craig Venable went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead SAGU in hits. The Lions were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.
 
Game Two
 
SAGU lost the lead late in a 4-1 defeat to Science and Arts on Saturday. The game was tied at one with the Drovers batting in the top of the eighth when Luis Pelayo singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
 
The Lions lost despite outhitting the Drovers five to four. Science and Arts got on the board in the first inning as Joey Pena's sac fly scored one run. SAGU knotted the game up a one in the bottom of the first inning as Alejandro Garcia's sac fly scored one run for the Lions.
 
Grant McManus took the loss for SAGU, going one-third of an inning and allowing three runs on three hits and walking zero. Michael Watson started the game for SAGU. The lefty went seven innings, allowing one run on zero hits and striking out eight.
 
Cade Dorethy, Timothy Compomizzi, Craig Venable, Alejandro Garcia, and Ben Bills each collected a hit for SAGU. The Lions didn't commit a singled error in the field.
