SAGU Splits with OPSU

Waxahachie, TX – The SAGU Softball team split the first two games of the four-game series with Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Saturday afternoon at the Waxahachie Sports Complex. The Lady Lions took game one 5-4 but lost game two 4-1. SAGU now sits at 14-7 on the year and 4-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
 
Game One
 
SAGU took the lead late and defeated OPSU 5-4 on Saturday. The Lady Lions were down 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning when an error by the Aggies scored two runs for SAGU.
 
OPSU got things moving in the first inning, when Isabel Ray singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs. Autumn Graham led things off on the rubber for SAGU. The pitcher surrendered four runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out eight.
 
Makyla Kelly led SAGU with two hits in three at bats. The Lady Lions racked up six hits on the day.
 
Game Two
 
Nothing came easy for SAGU on Saturday, as they fell 10-0 to OPSU in game two. Kenley Yocom got the start for OPSU, allowing two hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out two and walking one.
 
Kassandra Varagas was in the pitcher's circle for SAGU. The pitcher allowed eight hits and ten runs over six innings, striking out two and walking zero. Alana Ortega and Makyla Kelly each collected one hit to lead the Lady Lions.
 
The Lady Lions will continue their four-game series with OPSU in a double header on Sunday, March 13 at 1:30 PM at the SAGU Softball Field.
