Chickasha, OK – SAGU Softball took a thrilling 3-2 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State University in the first game of the Sooner Athletic Conference series, but they fell 8-0 to Science and Arts in their second game of the day. The Lady Lions will now face Southwestern Christian University at 1pm tomorrow in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Game One
Autumn Graham took the Lady Lions the distance in the nine-inning victory over Oklahoma Panhandle. The righthander ended the game with nine innings pitched, 2 hits allowed, and 2 runs allowed, striking out 8 and walking 4.
For six innings, the score remained 1-0 OPSU, but the Lady Lions rallied in the seventh inning.
Ashlyn Teran would single to left field, scoring
Brooke Kinnibrugh, and
Lashay Reyes would give SAGU the lead after her single to left field, scoring
Makyla Kelly. The Aggies would answer in the bottom of the seventh, tying the ballgame up 2-2 and sending it to extras.
Both teams would go scoreless in the eighth inning, but SAGU would rally in the ninth inning to take the lead as Kelly would put a tough ball in play to score
Maddie Watson and give the Lady Lions a 3-2 lead. Graham would shut down the Aggies in the bottom of the ninth to give SAGU the 3-2 victory.
Game Two
SAGU struggled in the first inning as the No. 2 seed Science and Arts would jump out to a quick 5-0 lead. The Lady Lions couldn't find any offense as they would register just two hits in the game.
Ashlyn Teran would get the loss for SAGU, pitching 1 inning and giving up 5 hits and 5 runs.
Kassandra Vargas would come in relief. Vargas would go 4.1 innings, giving up 5 hits and 3 runs.
Cerny would get the win for the Drovers in the pitcher's circle. Cerny would go 5 innings, giving up just 1 hit and 0 runs. The Drovers were able to add to their 5-0 lead, scoring 1 run in the second and 2 runs in the sixth.
The Lady Lions will now face Southwestern Christian University at 1pm tomorrow in Chickasha, Oklahoma, and they will look to stay alive in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.
