The Lions dominate the second half of the SAGU vs Avila series encounter

January 28, 2023

Waxahachie, TX – On Saturday afternoon in Waxahachie, Texas, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions baseball team continued their 2023 season-opening series against the Avila University (Mo.) Eagles

Game 1:

In the day's opening game, SAGU prevailed after a thrilling match with the home audience on the edge of their seats.

Alejandro Garcia was able to advance three SAGU runners to home plate in his three at-bats. Additionally, Garcia could dash to the plate and score two runs of his own.

In addition, Alejandro Garcia hit the first home run of the 2023 season.

Six strikeouts were recorded by Matthew Hickey in four innings pitched.

Bryson Collins hit to center field in the bottom of the eighth inning with the score knotted at seven to bring home Avery Chatman to score the winning run.

Game 2:

Reagan Smith took the mound for game two, and his powerful pitching left his mark on the contest.

Reagan Smith steamrolled scorching strikes, leaving Avila hitters bewildered in a cloud of dust. Smith pitched little more than five innings and struck out four Eagle hitters.

SAGU was again able to put up big scoring numbers against the Eagles.

Eli Lyons, Nick Mosley, and Bryson Collins broke through the Avila defense by destroying massive double plays.

Reagan Smith gave his team a comfortable buffer to play loosely and confidently by allowing one hit to be conceded.

Cornacchione's Corner
