SAGU Lady Lions Fall Short to USAO Drovers 2-1

October 17, 2023

Waxahachie, TX - The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions soccer team faced a challenging match against the University of Science and Arts (USAO) Drovers in a crucial Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) showdown at the Lions Athletic Complex in Waxahachie, Texas.

Lions Review
The game got off to an intense start as the Drovers managed to break through the Lady Lions' defense, finding the back of the net within the first five minutes. However, the Lady Lions showed resilience throughout the match. Their first goal of the game was a true display of teamwork, as Stephanie Hernandez, the SAC & NCCAA Offensive Player of the Week, scored with a beautifully executed assist from Valeria Olivas Maldonado.

As the first half progressed, both teams were locked in a 1-1 tie, with SAGU refusing to back down and showing their mettle. The halftime break allowed both teams to regroup and strategize for the second half.

In the second half, the Drovers managed to secure an additional goal, taking the lead with a score of 2-1. The Lady Lions, led by players like Ansley Meza, Alejandra Ruiz, Maryana Abarca, and Anna Bewley, fought valiantly to level the playing field and even take the lead. They put constant pressure on the Drovers' defense, but the opposing team managed to hold on to their lead.

Despite their best efforts, the Lady Lions were unable to overcome the Drovers in this SAC showdown. The final score favored the University of Science and Arts, 2-1.
