SAGU Lions Face Tough Battle but Fall to OCU Stars

October 30, 2023

Oklahoma City, OK - The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions soccer team embarked on a challenging road trip to face the Oklahoma City University (OCU) Stars at Brian Harvey Field. While the Lions showed heart and determination, they couldn't overcome a resilient Stars team and lost the match with a final score of 5-1.

Lions Review
The Lions made an early statement when Alex Castro, a talented freshman, showcased his incredible skills by scoring an unassisted goal at the 36th-minute mark. This goal was not only Castro's first of the season but also the first of his college career. The team headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead, determined to build on their momentum.

However, the Stars came out strong in the second half, launching a relentless offensive attack that resulted in a 5-0 scoring run. Despite their best efforts and moments of impressive improvisation, the Lions struggled to find the back of the net.

David Calvete Beltran held his ground in goal for the Lions, making three important saves during the match. Both teams took a total of 13 shots, but the Lions committed 13 fouls compared to OCU's two, which played a significant role in OCU protecting and extending the Stars' scoring advantage.

Next Up
Up next, the Lions are gearing up for the opening round of the SAC Tournament, where they will be on a mission to upset the top-seeded Mid-America Christian team.
