Lady Lions Show Moxie in Road Test Against Savage Storm

November 14, 2023

Durant, OK - The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions faced a formidable challenge on the road as they clashed with the D2 Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SE) Savage Storm in an exhibition match at the Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Lions Review
The Lady Lions entered the game with determination, led by Kyla McMinn, who set the defensive tone with consecutive steals in the early minutes. Despite being undersized against their D2 opponents, the Lady Lions showcased resilience and competitiveness throughout the contest.

Offensively, Agar Farres Garcia played a crucial role for the Lady Lions, demonstrating her scoring prowess with timely jump shots and effective moves in the paint. Wendy Clemmons added to the scoring spectacle with a remarkable long-range three-pointer that splahed through the net.

As the game progressed, Rylee Lavender and Neeley Tilley-Bedick contributed significantly within the Lady Lion offensive scheme, marked by multiple screens and unselfish ball movement. By halftime, the Lady Lions found themselves trailing the Savage Storm 31-28.

In the latter half, Gabrielle Owens showcased her value to the team with interior scoring, executing offensive rebound putbacks and scores from clever drop-off passes. Owens displayed finesse as an interior scorer, contributing to the Lady Lions' efforts to close the gap.

In the closing moments of the game, Agar Farres Garcia secured her second double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and an impressive 16 rebounds. Despite the Lady Lions' tenacity, they ultimately fell short in the exhibition match, with the Savage Storm securing a 63-55 victory.

Key contributors for the Lady Lions included Gabrielle Owens, who notched 10 points and seven rebounds, and Neeley Tilley-Bedick, showcasing her long-range shooting with three three-pointers.
