CJ Hall Cashes In 32 Brilliant Points Yet The SAGU Lions Fall Short in Thrilling Battle Against No. 9 LSUS Pilots

November 16, 2023

Waxahachie, TX - In an electrifying showdown at the Sheaffer Center, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions delivered a valiant effort against the formidable No. 9 Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) Pilots, ultimately succumbing to a narrow defeat in a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats, witnessing the lead change hands eight times.

Lions Review
The Lions started the contest with great energy, buoyed by the enthusiastic home crowd. Overcoming initial turnover troubles, the team found their rhythm as JJ Boling displayed early prowess, showcasing his rebounding skills and sinking two crucial three-pointers in the first half. A standout moment came when CJ Kelley soared for a block, snatching the ball out of the air for a spectacular two-handed rejection. As the Lions settled into the game, the ball began to circulate seamlessly, and shots started to find their mark.

Halftime Hustle
Heading into halftime, the Lions trailed 33-30, with CJ Hall leading all scorers at the break with an impressive 16 points. CJ Kelley dominated the boards with seven rebounds in the first half.

Second-Half Surge
The second half witnessed a shift in dynamics as Alerick Hall took charge, orchestrating plays and creating open looks for teammates like Kylon Owens and Noah Boling. Two pivotal runs defined the game—a SAGU scoring spree that saw them establish an 11-point lead, countered by an LSUS surge that wrestled back control. In a nail-biting finish, the Lions narrowly fell short with a final score of 73-71, highlighted by a last effort half-court heave from CJ Hall.

Key Performances
CJ Hall emerged as the star of the night, amassing an impressive 32 points and contributing three steals. JJ Boling showcased his versatility with 17 points and eight rebounds, while CJ Kelley's dominance on the boards continued with nine rebounds. Noah Boling contributed nine points and six assists.

Looking Ahead
Despite the heartbreak, the Lions remain undeterred, setting their sights on the Battle of the Beach Tournament in Panama City, Florida. On November 20th, they will face another formidable opponent in the NAIA top 25, Florida College, with tip-off scheduled for 12:00 PM.
