Goodwell, OK - The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions traveled to Goodwell, Oklahoma, for a fierce Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) showdown against Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU). The Lady Lions encountered some resistance early in the game but rallied back to secure a well-deserved victory in four sets: 25-23, 25-15, 25-9, and 25-13.
Lions Review
The Lady Lions faced a tough challenge as OPSU came out strong, taking the opening set. It was a setback, but it didn't shake the Lady Lions' determination.
Throughout the contest, middle hitters Emma Tompkins and Karena Tipton displayed their prowess at the net, instilling extreme confidence in the Lady Lions. Their excellent net play contributed significantly to the team's overall performance.
Cassidy Hargesheimer and the back-to-back SAC Setter of the Week, Riley Burcham, orchestrated the offense with masterful precision, setting up their teammates for powerful kills. Alexandra Bonnett and Bailee Alexander were particularly aggressive, delivering magnificent swings that overwhelmed the opposition.
Riley Burcham not only shone on offense but also displayed her defensive skills with 11 digs, while Tessa Glick matched her with another 11 digs.
SAGU Head Volleyball Coach Hank Moore praised his team's performance, emphasizing the total team effort in securing the victory over OPSU. The front-row players, particularly Karena Tipton, were highlighted for their incredible contributions on both offense and defense.
Coach Moore also emphasized the significance of the win, as it puts the Lady Lions in a prime position for the conference championship and an automatic bid. The path to glory is clear, and the Lady Lions are ready to go out and seize it.
The Lady Lions will continue their quest for the conference championship in their upcoming matchup against Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, on November 4th at 1:00 PM. The team's focus and determination are sure to be key factors in their pursuit of championship glory.
