Waxahachie, TX – On Friday evening in Waxahachie, Texas, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions baseball team played the first two games of a tournament series matchup versus Tabor College and Mount Marty College.
Game 1:
In SAGU's matchup against Mount Marty, the Lions came away victorious as they put up five runs in a 5-3 win.
Matthew Hickey had a tremendous outing going six innings and tallying ten strikeouts while only giving up two walks.
Grant McManus and Cade Hendricks were a part of the relief team today for the Lions and took care of the job.
Bryson Collins had an outstanding performance at the plate, going 2/4 with a double and notching 2 RBIs.
Jared Kirk also hit a double and went 1/3 as he scored a run for the Lions while also getting an RBI.
With a triple in the ballgame, James Maddox Henderson went 1/1 while also scoring a run.
JV Verdin and
Cade Hendricks were responsible for two of the Lion's RBIs.
Game 2:
In another dominant offensive performance, SAGU scored 14 runs in their victory over Tabor College.
With help on the mound from
Michael Watson, a six-inning, nine-strikeout performance held Tabor to only one run.
Avery Chatman went 3/4 at the plate, scoring a run while also knocking in 2 RBIs.
Craig Venable hit a double and scored, going 1/2 with 2 RBIs.
Bryson Collins scored a run and tallied an RBI as well.
Timothy Compomizzi went 2/4 with a double, scoring twice for the Lions, and recorded an RBI also.
With a 3-3 performance at the plate, Justin De Los Santos had an RBI as he hit Corinthian Jones in to score a run.
Sterling Seibold scored two runs for the Lions while hitting a double.
JV Verdin went 1/2, scoring twice, and was credited with an RBI.
Nick Mosley and Matt Daiy tallied a hit, a run, and an RBI.
Cornacchione's Corner
"Two great starts from Hickey and Michael. In many ways, it was the best the both of them have looked. We had a fantastic approach at the plate in game two. Both the teams we played will bounce back and be ready to go tomorrow so we have to be ready to answer," said SAGU head baseball coach Matt Cornachione.
