Waxahachie, TX – On Saturday afternoon in Waxahachie, Texas, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions softball team faced the University of the Southwest (N.M.) for the back half of their series doubleheader.

Game 1:
The Lady Lions defeated the University of the Southwest in a close match in their opening game of the day, 10-9.
SAGU was able to total 14 hits in their opening game compared to the University of the Southwest's 13, for the game was a high-scoring affair.Â
Candence Hopgood and Trista Ford led SAGU with two RBIs each.Â

Game 2:
In the day's second game, the Lady Lions lost to the University of the Southwest 12-4.Â
The Lady Lions were not able to keep up their high-scoring pace. SAGU had four hits compared to the University of the Southwest's 14.Â
However, the game began with a strong start for the Lions when M. Wiggins homered in the second inning to bring in two SAGU runners, Trista Ford, and Candence Hopgood.
Trista Ford singled a bouncy bomb to centerfield and brought in Sasha Jennings, who zoomed into home plate for the score.

"Although we failed to sweep the series, the ladies played well, and I was pleased by how resilient they stayed throughout both games. I am eager to see how diligently they will work in the future," head SAGU softball coach Watty Watson said.
