Fort Worth, TX – On Friday evening at Sycamore Park in Fort Worth, Texas, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions baseball team faced their crosstown rival, the Texas Wesleyan University (TWU) Rams, in the opening game of their Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) series.
Game 1:
In the first matchup of the series, the SAGU Lions defeated the Rams 4-2. Michael Watson was a true workhorse for the Lions on the mound. Watson dominated the contest with a blazing, overpowered fastball that he delivered for seven strong innings. Watson allowed zero runs, struck out eight batters, and threw an outstanding 120 pitches. Watson's pitching masterclass imprisoned Ram's batters.
Offensively, the Lions were quiet in the beginning of the game until Avery Chatman blew the game wide open in the fourth inning with a three-run home run bomb. Chatman finished the contest with two hits and three RBIs.
Alejandro Garcia also helped the Lion offense gain some insurance with a fifth-inning RBI single, and that was all the Lion pitching would need to protect the SAGU lead. Garcia finished the day with two hits and a hit-by-pitch. Reagan Smith and Cade Hendricks closed the game for the Lions.

Cornacchione's Corner
"Great start by Michael and a clutch two-out homer from Avery Chatman. Bullpen held on, and we found a way to turn a huge double play in the 9th. Important to win the opener, but we have two huge challenges in front of us tomorrow," said SAGU head baseball coach Matt Cornachione.
