In a historic victory, the Lions knock Central Christian out, and Watson throws his first no-hitter

Waxahachie, TX – On Friday evening at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) in Waxahachie, Texas, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions baseball team faced the Central Christian College (CCC) Tigers in the opening games of their Sooner Athletics Conference (SAC) series.

 

Game 1:

The Lions easily defeated the Tigers in game one of the doubleheader series. The SAGU Lions totaled nine runs on six hits.

The Lions' best scoring inning of the game came in the bottom of the second inning when they scored three runs. The Lions didn't witness an inning conclude without a run until the fourth inning.

In the opening game victory of the SAGU versus Central Christian series, Michael Watson threw a ho-hitter and recorded a new season high with 15 strikeouts.

Watson's no-hitter was the first of his career, and his win of the day also equaled SAGU Baseball alumnus Ben Bills' all-time victories record.

Avery Chatman had two RBIs, Timothy Compomizzi had three RBIs to lead SAGU, while Matt Daiy, Craig Venable, and Alejandro Garcia each contributed one RBI.

 

Game 2:

In the second game of the doubleheader series, the Lions handily trounced the Tigers. The SAGU Lions scored a total of eight runs on five hits.

Alejandro Garcia led the Lions in RBIs with three; Cade Hendricks finished second with two. Justin Delossantos, Avery Chatman, and Matt Daiy all added one RBI. The Lions also took advantage of many walks and hit-by-pitches.

Ethan Nors recorded five strikeouts on the mound in six innings of pitching.

Cornacchione's Corner 

"Good to see Michael get his first no-hitter. He's worked very hard and continues to develop in every way. Overall, we played very well defensively and consistently added runs throughout each game. It's a good start to the series, but we need to finish in a big way tomorrow," said SAGU head baseball coach Matt Cornachione.

On Saturday, March 18th, Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) will face Central Christian College (CCC) in Waxahachie, Texas, for a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) showdown.
