Goodwell, OK – On Friday afternoon in Goodwell, Oklahoma, the RV Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions baseball team opened their Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) series against the Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) Aggies.
Lions Review
The SAGU team dominated, winning the first game of the doubleheader between the Lions and Aggies 12-0. The SAGU squad had 17 hits compared to OPSU's two, while the Lions had no fielding errors, unlike the Aggies' five.
Four SAGU runs were scored in the Lions' opening inning, the game's highest scoring. For SAGU, RBIs were supplied by
Avery Chatman,
Matt Daiy (2),
Bryson Collins (2),
Timothy Compomizzi,
Andrew Ortiz, and
Eli Lyons.
After destroying an Aggie fastball,
Eli Lyons smashed a home run into the left-field stands. Lyons' home run blast was the SAGU play of the game.
SAGU's starting pitcher for game one of the series was
Michael Watson. The left-handed pitcher was successful in ending a two-game losing streak. In seven innings of pitching, Watson struck out nine OPSU hitters. In the match, Watson threw 54 strikes altogether.
The SAGU team won game two by a score of 4-2, despite the Lions and Aggies playing in a more competitive game.
Avery Chatman,
Craig Venable, and
Andrew Ortiz (twice) all contributed RBIs.
Ethan Nors, who started for SAGU, struck out seven hitters from OPSU.
Cade Hendricks ended the game in favor of the Lions.

"Good start, but there is still work to be done to close out this important conference weekend doubleheader tomorrow," said SAGU head baseball coach Matt Cornachione.
