Pineville, LA – On Friday afternoon in Pineville, Louisiana, the RV Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions baseball team opened their Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) series against the Louisiana Christian University (LCU) Wildcats.
Lions Review
When the SAGU team could not produce runs in the game's final innings, the Lions were defeated 3-2 by the Louisiana Christian Wildcats.
Avery Chatman, the Lions' top base thief, was able to sneak to home plate for the game's opening run thanks to a Wildcat fielding mistake.
Avery Chatman, who has been spearheading the SAGU attack, added an RBI with a single through the right side that pulled Dominick Padilla home.
Nevertheless, the Lions were unable to add any more runs to match the three scores LCU piled late despite leading by two to zero going into the fifth inning.
Michael Watson faced 31 hitters while pitching and fanned 10 of them. Michael Watson threw a total of 71 strikes over the course of a little more than six innings.
The Lions lost to the Wildcats by a score of one in game two. Craig Venable added two RBIs, and Dominick Padilla hit a home run, but the Lions' four runs, which matched their ten hits, did not constitute a sufficient amount of offense. Ethan Nors led the pitching rotation with five strikeouts.
Cornacchione's Corner
"Not the results we had hoped for. We'll use this lesson learned to do better tomorrow," said SAGU head baseball coach Matt Cornachione.
