Lady Lions Triumph in Fort Worth as SAGU Defeats TXWES Rams 61-57 in Intense Rivalry Clash

January 27, 2023

Waxahachie, TX - In a pulsating Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) showdown, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions embarked on a journey to the Sid Richardson Center in Fort Worth, Texas, for a historic clash against cross-town rivals, the Texas Wesleyan University (TXWES) Rams. The previous matchup saw the Lady Lions triumph at home with a 73-70 victory, and this time, they aimed to replicate their success on the road in the heated continuation of their rivalry.

Lady Lion Review
Right from the opening tip-off, Neeley Tilley-Beddick and Wendy Clemmons set the tone with long-range three-pointers, shifting the momentum in favor of the Lady Lions. Despite early foul trouble for Kyla McMinn, Rylee Lavender entered the game with focus, showcasing energy by taking charges and knocking down crucial threes. Chanie Chambers announced her presence with back-to-back three-pointers, contributing to an astronomical six three-pointers for the Lady Lions at the end of the first period.

Heading into halftime with a 31-24 lead, Head Coach Mike Sons encouraged his team to stay poised and continue playing together.

The emotional third period saw the Lady Lions facing adversity from the rowdy Rams' faithful and the pressures of a high-intensity road match. Undeterred, they embraced the challenges, determined to overcome and showcase the best version of themselves and the school, SAGU. Massive rebounding efforts and Chanie Chambers' late-game heroics sealed the hard-fought victory for the Lady Lions, finishing with a 61-57 triumph.
