Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lady Lions continued their Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) dominance with a 3-0 sweep over Mid-America Christian University (MACU) in front of an energetic home crowd at the Sheaffer Center on October 12th. Following a record-setting performance the night before by defensive star Tessa Glick, the Lady Lions showed no signs of fatigue, defeating MACU with scores of 25-23, 25-20, and 25-19.
The Lady Lions, now boasting an 18-4 overall record and a perfect 13-0 mark in SAC play, put together a clinical display in all phases of the game. Nelson's aggressive offense and impenetrable defense silenced MACU's attacks, forcing errors and capitalizing on key moments.
The first set saw a close battle as MACU fought hard, but Nelson's resilience came through. Despite hitting .170, MACU was unable to maintain momentum, with Nelson securing the set 25-23 thanks to the sharp attacking by Bailee Alexander and Lilly Hanna, who delivered critical kills. Tessa Glick was relentless on defense, leading to her match-high 22 digs.
Nelson's defense suffocated MACU in the second set, holding them to a negative hitting percentage of -.023. Lindi Boling and Samantha Moore contributed with crucial serves and blocks that limited MACU's chances to swing the momentum. The Lady Lions' 25-20 victory was defined by their 12 kills and teamwork, highlighted by Taylor Cavazos' 17 assists and Cassidy Hargesheimer's steady presence.
In the third set, Nelson shifted into high gear, pushing MACU to the brink. Alexandra Bonnetts offensive brilliance, coupled with Lilly Hanna's consistency, was too much for MACU to handle. The Lady Lions hit .250, their best of the match, sealing the 25-19 victory and the 3-0 sweep. Bonnett was instrumental with 9 kills, and Alexander led the team with 11 kills overall.
In total, the Lady Lions outplayed their opponents in nearly every statistical category, with a team hitting percentage of .144 compared to MACU's .110. Nelson also posted 6 blocks and 7 service aces, showcasing their balance on both offense and defense.
