Lions Review
Nelson University wasted no time making their mark on the game, as Dakeevion Rose broke loose for a 34-yard touchdown just over a minute into the first quarter. Rose struck again three minutes later, punching in a 1-yard run to give Nelson a 13-0 lead. However, the Rams responded quickly and forcefully, scoring on a 64-yard drive shortly after, igniting a wave of momentum that saw them rack up 27 points by the end of the first quarter.
Quarterback Pierson Rougeau battled against constant pressure, completing 14 of 21 passes for 127 yards, with Zach Fuller leading the receivers with 8 catches for 108 yards. However, the Rams' defense sacked Rougeau nine times, preventing the Lions from finding an offensive rhythm.
The Lions' defense worked hard to contain the Rams' potent attack, with Joseph Chavez and Dylon Kaufman recording five tackles each, and Jordan Walker making a key interception. However, Texas Wesleyan's relentless ground game, led by Ernest Ceasar's 78 yards and multiple touchdowns, proved too much to handle.
Marvin Sanders added a bright spot for the Lions in the third quarter, scoring on a 6-yard run. But despite the team's resilience, the Rams' high-powered offense continued to pile on points, finishing the game with a 76-19 victory.
