Waxahachie, TX – On a night dedicated to honoring their seniors, the Nelson University Lions faced Mid-America Christian University (MACU) in a Sooner Athletic Conference contest on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Lions Athletic Complex. Though the Lions left everything on the field, MACU's relentless attack saw them take the match 4-0.
Before kickoff, seniors Ryan Arruda, John Garcia, Wenceslau Coimbra, Guilherme Ravaneda, Jonahan Lopez, David Calvete, and Jacop Sang were celebrated for their contributions to Nelson University Athletics. These student-athletes have been key figures throughout the season, leading the Lions both on and off the field.
Lion Review
The Lions battled hard throughout the game, but despite their best efforts, they were unable to break through the MACU defense. David Beltran stood tall between the posts for Nelson, making three crucial saves to keep his team in the game, but MACU's firepower proved too much as the match progressed.
In attack, Dillon Cecil Du Toit and Omolemo Thebe Matla each took shots on goal, while Jonathan Lopez and Pedro Mattoso came close to finding the net, but the MACU goalkeeper was unshaken. The Lions' midfield worked tirelessly to maintain possession and build up opportunities, but ultimately, they struggled to convert chances into goals.
What's Next?
The Lions will regroup and look to end the regular season on a high as they return to action on Tuesday, October 29, against Central Christian College (Kan.) at 7:00 PM.
