Lady Lions Close Out Regular Season with Gritty Victory Over Central Christian

October 29, 2024

Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lady Lions closed out their regular season with a decisive 6-2 win over Central Christian College (Kan.) on Tuesday, October 29, in a spirited Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) matchup at the Lions Athletic Complex. With the postseason looming, the Lady Lions showcased their offensive firepower and teamwork, sending a strong message as they gear up for the SAC tournament.

Lady Lions Review
The game started with a back-and-forth intensity as both teams fought to set the tone. Central Christian struck first, with Sophia Cook netting an early goal at the 9:20 mark, assisted by Racquel John. But the Lady Lions didn't take long to respond. In the 15th minute, Anna Bewley, a consistent offensive force, scored the equalizer off an assist from Stephanie Hernandez, igniting the Nelson crowd and setting the stage for a high-energy contest.

Only a few minutes later, Cook found the net again for Central Christian, briefly giving them a 2-1 lead. However, Nelson's Stephanie Hernandez quickly answered, tying the game at 2-2 and marking the beginning of a Lady Lions scoring spree. By the 25th minute, Bewley struck once more, this time assisted by Alejandra Ruiz, giving Nelson their first lead of the match, and they never looked back.

As the first half progressed, the Lady Lions continued to pile on the pressure. Stephanie Arreola joined the scoresheet, extending Nelson's lead to 4-2 in the 31st minute. The Lady Lions' relentless attack was complemented by strong defensive efforts, keeping Central Christian from finding a rhythm. Before the halftime whistle, Bewley completed her hat trick at the 41st minute, assisted again by Hernandez, putting Nelson firmly in control with a 5-2 lead.

In the second half, the Lady Lions maintained their dominance. Bewley struck once more in the 45th minute, sealing a four-goal performance that cemented her status as the night's standout player. The Lady Lions played with poise and tactical precision, locking down Central Christian's offense and securing a well-deserved 6-2 victory as they concluded their regular season campaign.
