Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lady Lions showed no mercy as they continued their undefeated Sooner Athletic Conference run, sweeping Southwestern Christian University Eagles 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Sheaffer Center. The Lady Lions delivered an electrifying performance, adding another victory to their already impressive 15-4 record (10-0 in SAC play).
The Lady Lions came out strong in the first set, establishing their dominance early. Behind the powerful attacks of Alexandra Bonnett and Lilly Hanna, Nelson quickly overpowered Southwestern Christian, taking the first set 25-16. The Eagles struggled to match the Lady Lions' intensity, with a hitting percentage of .000 in the first set, while Nelson posted a .250, setting the tone for the match.
In the second set, the Lady Lions truly hit their stride. Hanna and Mackenzie Smith led the charge, recording 13 and 6 kills, respectively, while Cassidy Hargesheimer orchestrated the offense brilliantly with 13 assists. Nelson University hit an outstanding .478 as a team, outclassing the Eagles, who could only manage a -.107 hitting percentage. The Lady Lions took the second set convincingly, 25-8, silencing any hopes of a comeback.
The third set proved no different as Nelson University continued their relentless pace. Bonnett recorded a match-high of 8 kills, while Hanna added 6 kills with an impressive .417 hitting percentage. Nelson wrapped up the match with a dominant 25-6 win, holding SCU to just 3 kills and a dismal -.167 hitting percentage. The Lady Lions' defense, led by Tessa Glick with 12 digs and Madison Petten with 6 digs, kept the Eagles' offense at bay throughout the match. Lindi Boling also contributed to the shutout, leading with 4 aces and anchoring the service line.
With this win, Nelson University outscored SCU 75-30 over three sets and secured 34 kills compared to the Eagles' 16, demonstrating their superior play in all facets of the game. The victory extends the Lady Lions' conference winning streak to 10 games, firmly positioning them as one of the top contenders in the SAC.

The Lady Lions now set their sights on a high-stakes matchup against their cross-town rivals, the Texas Wesleyan Rams, on Tuesday, October 8th 7 PM at the Sheaffer Center.
