Boling's Hot Hand Sparks Lions' Swaggy Win Over Texas A&M-San Antonio

November 8, 2024

Waxahachie, TX – In front of an electrified crowd at the Sheaffer Center, the No. 23 Nelson University Lions showcased their skill, defeating Texas A&M University-San Antonio 88-65 in a Friday evening clash that underscored the team's potential and momentum on home court.

Lions Review
The Lions set the tone early, charging out to a commanding lead with relentless offense and suffocating defense. By halftime, Nelson University had built a 49-36 advantage, thanks to precise ball movement and a high-energy transition game that left the Jaguars struggling to keep pace. The Lions' well-rounded effort continued into the second half, with players diving for loose balls, executing plays with finesse, and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities.

Leading the charge was junior guard Latrel Davis, who poured in 15 points buoyed by his fearless drives and five clutch free throws. CJ Hall made his presence felt, adding 14 points and showcasing his playmaking ability with four assists. Jordan Jenkins chipped in 10 points, displaying his rim rocking prowess.

Trace Boling came off the bench and turned heads with a perfect 4-for-8 performance from beyond the arc, contributing 12 points that further extended the Lions' lead. Noah Jonker, also off the bench, impressed with 9 points and five rebounds, providing a key spark in the second half.

The Lions' defensive intensity was unrelenting, led by team captain Justin Collins, whose four steals and high-energy defense disrupted the Jaguars' rhythm. The team's effort on the boards was notable, with Kylon Owens securing five rebounds to ensure that Texas A&M-San Antonio had limited second-chance points.

What's Next for the Lions?
This victory pushes the Lions to a 2-1 overall record and serves as a strong morale boost as they set their sights on Sooner Athletic Conference play. The next challenge awaits on Thursday, November 14th, when Nelson University travels to Oklahoma City to face Oklahoma City University in their first conference showdown.
