Lady Lions Show Resilience Despite Falling to Langston

December 7, 2024

Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lady Lions faced a stern challenge on Saturday afternoon, hosting a blazing Langston University team in a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) clash at the Sheaffer Center. Despite a powerful effort, the Lady Lions fell 66-40 to the SAC leaders, showcasing moments of resilience.

Langston, boasting a 10-1 record, set the tone early with a dominant first quarter, outscoring Nelson 19-4. The Lady Lions struggled to find their rhythm offensively, hitting just one field goal in the opening quarter. However, they found their footing in the second frame, led by standout performances from Kyla McMinn and Kate Miller, who combined to energize the home team. McMinn ended the game with 13 points, while Miller contributed 10 points and 4 rebounds.

Entering the second half with a 32-18 deficit, the Lady Lions mounted a strong third-quarter push, outscoring Langston 16-14. The team showcased improved ball movement and grit on defense, with key contributions from Neeley Tilley-Bedick and Wendy Clemmons. Clemmons, who chipped in 2 points and 5 rebounds, embodied the Lady Lions' relentless energy on the boards.

Despite the third-quarter surge, Langston's depth and consistency proved too much.

Looking Ahead
The Lady Lions (3-8, 2-6 SAC) will have an opportunity to rebound next Saturday, December 14, when they take on the University of North Texas – Dallas in another pivotal SAC showdown. Tipoff is set for 2:00 PM.
