Lakeland, FL - The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions baseball team journeyed to Lakeland, Florida, to face the formidable No. 1 Southeastern University in an intense doubleheader showdown.
Game 1
In a hard-fought opener against Southeastern University, the Lions endured a tough 4-0 defeat. Offensively, the Lions struggled to find their rhythm, managing just one hit by Andrew Ortiz, who went 1 for 3. Despite a commendable effort on the mound by Reagan Smith, who pitched 5 innings and allowed only 1 earned run on 5 hits, the Lions couldn't muster enough support. Justin De Los Santos provided solid relief pitching, conceding just one hit while tallying 2 strikeouts, but it wasn't enough to turn the tide in favor of the Lions.
Game 2
The second leg of the doubleheader proved equally challenging for the Lions, as they fell 9-1 to Southeastern. Avery Chatman, Josh Pinter, Corinthian Jones, and Nick Mosley each contributed with a hit, while Jared Kirk showcased his speed with a stolen base and the sole run for the Lions. On the mound, Neco Lopez battled through 3 innings, surrendering 5 earned runs on 5 hits, before Kaden Kneip delivered 3 innings of solid relief, allowing only 2 hits. Despite the efforts of Jake Petty, Hamilton Moye, Grant McManus, and Trevor Proefrock to stem the tide, the Lions couldn't overcome Southeastern's relentless offense.
