SAGU Sizzles in 15-2 Win Over Huston Tillotson

February 27, 2024

Waxahachie, TX - In an electrifying nine-inning showdown at the Lions Athletic Complex, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions Baseball team, overwhelmed Huston Tillotson University with a commanding 15-2 triumph.

Lions Review
The Lions' offense ignited early and never relented, led by standout performances at the plate. Avery Chatman's stellar 2 for 3 performance, including a crucial double, a run, and three RBIs, set the tone for the Lions' offensive onslaught. Andrew Ortiz showcased his versatility, going a perfect 3 for 3 with a double, a stolen base, two runs, and three RBIs, while Dominick Padilla's explosive bat contributed a 2 for 2 display highlighted by a powerful home run and three RBIs.

Adding to the offensive barrage, Neco Lopez launched a towering home run, driving in two runs, and Timothy Compomizzi's clutch hitting resulted in a 2 for 3 outing with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI. Wesley Flatt's steady presence in the lineup yielded a perfect 2 for 2 performance with a double and three runs scored.

On the mound, Justin De Los Santos delivered a masterful performance, earning the win with two innings of dominant pitching, allowing only one hit while recording three strikeouts. The Lions' bullpen, anchored by Hayden Mullins, Kaden Kneip, Carl Pierson, and Jason Harper, showcased unwavering resilience, stifling Tillotson's offense to just three hits for the remainder of the game.

The camaraderie and spirit of the Lions were evident, as chants of "rub his feet" reverberated from the dugout, when the pitchers were swapped out.

Looking Ahead
The Lions now shift their focus to a pivotal Sooner Athletic Conference battle against Texas Wesleyan University on March 1st, with first pitch scheduled for 2:30 PM at the Lions Athletic Complex.
