CJ Hall Shines in Senior Night Spectacle as SAGU Lions Triumph Against Wayland Baptist

February 24. 2024

Waxahachie, TX - The Sheaffer Center in Waxahachie, Texas, was ablaze with excitement as the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions hosted the Wayland Baptist University (WBU) Pioneers in a captivating Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) showdown. The game was not only marked by fierce competition but also by a heartfelt ceremony honoring the legacy of SAGU seniors Dylan Pitt, Cory Hicks, Cortland Blake, and Noah Boling.

Lions Review
In a first half filled with back-and-forth action, the lead changed hands five times, showcasing the intensity of the matchup. CJ Hall emerged as a force to be reckoned with, scoring 15 points with an unstoppable jumper that propelled SAGU to a 47-39 lead at halftime.

As the second half unfolded, the Lions rallied together to fortify their defense against Wayland's post scorers. Boling brothers, Noah and JJ, showcased their basketball IQ, controlling the pace of the game with strategic plays. Alerick Hall demonstrated his dynamic playmaking abilities, orchestrating the offense and setting up teammates Cortland Blake and CJ Hall for impressive scores.

However, it was CJ Hall who stole the spotlight with a jaw-dropping crossover that left a defender on their backside as he effortlessly converted an and-one layup in traffic. With tough defensive stops and clutch free throws down the stretch, the Lions secured a hard-fought 99-92 victory.

Key Stats
CJ Hall led the Lions with a stellar performance, tallying 35 points and 3 steals, while Cortland Blake contributed 19 points and 5 rebounds. Noah Jonker chipped in with 13 points, and Alerick Hall showcased his all-around game with 10 points and nine assists.

Looking Ahead
With the regular season behind them, the Lions now turn their attention to the upcoming Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament first round on Feb 29 (Thu).
