McPherson, KS - The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions brought their A-game in a riveting doubleheader against Central Christian College, igniting the field with a rollercoaster of emotions and jaw-dropping plays. With split results, the Lions showcased determination as they kicked off their Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) road series.
Game 1
In the opening clash, the Lions faced a formidable challenge against Central Christian, ultimately succumbing to a hard-fought 5-3 defeat. Despite the setback, standout performances emerged from the lineup. Nick Mosley spearheaded the offensive charge, going 2 for 3 at the plate with a crucial double and a run scored. Xavien Thompson showcased his prowess with a 1 for 4 effort, notching an RBI double. Wesley Flatt and Dominick Padilla contributed to the scoreboard, each crossing the plate once. On the mound, Matthew Hickey battled through 5 innings, tallying 4 strikeouts but ultimately absorbing the loss. Hayden Mullins provided steady relief, holding the opposition at bay.
Game 2
Refusing to dwell on the defeat, the Lions stormed back in emphatic fashion, trouncing Central Christian in an explosive 18-0 victory. Alejandro Garcia emerged as the hero of the hour, blasting two towering home runs while amassing 5 RBIs and swiping a base. Xavien Thompson continued his offensive onslaught, going 3 for 3 with a homer and a double, driving in 3 runs and showcasing his speed with a stolen base. Andrew Ortiz and Dominick Padilla contributed to the offensive barrage, each delivering key hits. The Lions' pitching staff delivered a masterful performance, led by Ethan Nors, who blanked the opposition over 5 dominant innings, striking out 8 batters.
